Summit Online

No one can build equity alone! We have created an online community that will support you in your anti-racist work and equitable leadership beyond New Orleans. Connect with other dedicated educators from throughout North America through forums, dialogues, and open reflection. Access equity related resources, including articles, lesson plans, presentations, and other tools. Engage in equity work year-round with Summit Online.

Pre-Summit Online

Beginning August 1, 2008, start preparing for the Summit through the following online activities:
Discussion Boards: Guided communication to get participants thinking about the summit experience, and share expectations and questions.
Reflection Forums: Open forums that allow participants to talk about issues, questions and concerns with their peers.

Furthermore, participants will be required to complete one or two activities prior to the Summit, depending on prior experience:

Racial Autobiography: Summit attendees will be required to create their racial autobiography prior to attending the Summit. You can download a PowerPoint template to write your racial autobiography by clicking on the link below. Feel free, however, to use whatever format works best for you to write and/or illustrate your story. Once completed, please send your racial autobiography to summit@pacificeducationalgroup.com prior to arriving at the Summit.

Beyond Diversity: Participants who have not participated in a Beyond Diversity workshop, or who have not completed reading the book Courageous Conversation About Race by Singleton and Linton, will be required to attend the two-day Beyond Diversity Pre-Summit sessions. For more information, reference the Pre- & Post-Summit web pages.

Concurrent Summit Online

During the Summit, from September 28 to October 1, 2008, participants will be strongly encouraged to engage in the following online activities:
Discussion Boards: Guided communication where participants can respond to the Summit experience, keynote addresses, the New Orleans experience, and share thoughts and questions.
Reflection Forums: Open forums that allow participants to reflect on sessions, talk about issues, and pose questions and concerns with peers.

Post-Summit Online

Beginning after the Summit in October, 2008, Summit Online will allow Summit participants to stay connected to their peers, and to the work of building equity in schools that work for all students. Summit Online will feature the following online activities and resources:
Discussion Boards: Monthly facilitated topics will keep you engaged in the work year round. These topics will be tied to Summit experiences, school situations, and societal events.
Reflection Forum: Open forums will allow participants to reflect on their own work, discuss conferences and conversations they have experienced, talk about issues, and pose questions and concerns with peers. Furthermore, regular highlights from the forums will be shared with encouragement to participate.
Document Sharing: On a regular basis articles, video clips, lesson plans, presentations, and other resources will be shared with the online community. Likewise, participants can also upload their own articles, reflections, lesson plans, presentations, and other resources that build towards equity.

Watch for podcasts and videos of Summit keynotes, distinguished lectures, and highlighted presentations. These can be used by you as conversation and reflection pieces throughout the year.
